GRM Mapping's interactive journey planning kiosk software has been selected by Fife Council to extend the reach of live real-time departure information and multi-modal journey planning across six of its busiest bus station and park & ride sites.
The 46-inch touchscreen totems are being installed at Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy and Leven bus stations and at the popular park & ride sites at Ferrytoll and Halbeath. They will be customised for each location and show live next bus departure information, a summary of all routes and stopping places, a full multi-modal journey planner function and routes to nearby places within a 10 minute walk. The kiosks will also feature GRM's accessible touchpad option, and development is now underway to further improve information for those with sight or hearing impairments.
The journey planner function searches bus, rail, walking and cycling options by blending data from multiple sources, and also allows the results to be sent to the user's mobile device via SMS message or by scanning a unique QR code. The park & ride installations will also highlight the return journey options from popular destinations outside of Fife, namely Edinburgh and Glasgow and their respective airports.
The installations follow the success of previous GRM kiosk rollouts for Durham County Council and Arriva Trains Wales. The first of the Fife kiosks is due to be installed and go live in Dunfermline bus station in the next few weeks, with all sites up and running by the end of 2018. Further locations have also been identified across the region should further bids for funding be successful. All of the hardware supply and installation has been co-ordinated with Ferrograph, GRM's trusted partner on kiosk technology.
As well as the touchscreens, GRM also supplies Fife with its online interactive public transport journey planner as part of the Travel Fife website, comprehensive printed network and town maps and static information posters for passengers using all bus stations and main passenger transport interchange points.
